Watching the Northern Lights dance across an Icelandic sky is one of those experiences that people describe as genuinely life-changing. The Kp-index app becomes addictive. You find yourself willing the clouds away at 11pm with a glass of Brennivín in hand — and then, when it happens, the green (and sometimes purple, and sometimes red) light floods the sky and conversation stops completely.
ION Adventure Hotel sits on a lava field at the edge of Þingvellir National Park, far from any light pollution, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a rooftop viewing terrace. It is one of the finest aurora-watching positions in Iceland.
